About
Music Box

Music Box is a family run business offering Ballet (and Pointe), Contemporary, Jazz, Tap, Classical Greek, National, Irish, Yoga and Musical Theatre classes.
Students can attend from 3 years old through to adult. Students do not have to leave the school when they turn 18. Students’ safety and their physical and mental well being are our priority. We offer a nurturing and non-competitive class environment. Each student is regarded equally and opportunities are fair.

Music Box produces a pantomime and show each year (pantomime is only available to students that attend Musical Theatre classes, but those who attend Dance classes as well will be able to perform dances in the pantomime too).
Both pantomime and show are optional.
Music Box prides itself on rewarding commitment shown over talent, and a lot of time it’s spent trying to give students equal opportunities.

At Music Box we aim to hire our costumes rather than sell them.
We have a large costume cupboard with a mixture of professionally hand made and factory made costumes.
By hiring costumes, we aim to reduce expense for performances and competitions.
Where possible, we use live music for our shows and pantomimes with highly skilled and professional musicians who are both local and from abroad that make up the Music Box House Band (piano, bass guitar, drums, electric guitar).
Scripts and songs are written by us for the students, and live music is also often available for Musical Theatre classes and for the younger Ballet classes.

Classes are not focused on exam work, but exams are available for those that want them. We do not feel that exams are for everybody and should be optional.
Therefore, most exam preparation takes place outside of lesson times.

We have two streams of student at Music Box.
Students are welcome to attend Music Box for purely recreational/social/fitness reasons and attend once or twice a week.
All students are invited to take part in the Music Box show.
Those students who attend multiple classes are also eligible to take part in competitions. There is no elite squad at Music Box and we do not hold auditions. People are asked to take part in extra work based on their dedication and commitment.
We Take part in the Guernsey Festival of Dance, Jersey Festival of Dance, Classical Greek Qualifiers and, if successful, Finals.
In 2019, Music Box gained 3 medals in the Classical Greek Finals.
Other successes include winning a Ballet group in Jersey as well as a student winning a solo trophy and two Guernsey Group trophies.

We provide assistance in researching centres for further education and guiding them through the audition process.
