Music Box Enters One Act Play Festival!

Music Box: Music Box Enters One Act Play Festival!

Music Box is entering the Guernsey One Act Play Festival for the first time.

As the school continues to grow, what was once the Music Box Variety Show is now gradually turning into Dance Show, with just the Reception to Year 4 musical theatre students getting the chance to perform poems and songs in their showcases on the same weekend.

Aside from the musical theatre classes getting the opportunity to take part in our Pantomime (arguably our biggest event of the year), we wanted to offer Music Box students from Year 5 upwards the chance to take part in more activities, which this year includes a Drama Summer School and the One Act Play Festival.

Being a fairly non competitive school, students show little interest in high intensity competitions. Whilst the One Act Play Festival is adjudicated and trophies are presented at the end, it feels like it is more of a celebration of theatre of all different age groups and genres, where winning and rivalry is less prevalent than in some other competitions, creating a good middle ground between simply giving children and adults alike the chance to perform to an audience whilst also receiving subjective professional feedback from an adjudicator.

21 students signed up to take part, and will be performing Game of Tiaras by Don Zoldis, which combines the elements of Shakespeare crossed with a parody of both Disney Princesses and Game of Thrones.

The festival takes place from Monday 22nd – Thursday 25th May and our play will be the last to perform in the festival on the Thursday, with the presentation ceremony to take place straight afterwards.

Keep an eye out on the G.A.D.O.C website and social media pages on how to get tickets and come and support our crazy cast.

Winter is coming…
