Music Box presents ‘Silkstone Scar’, an original production written by Pippa Smith and Nick Smith, and directed by Peter Mitchell.
(Proudly supporting the Priaulx Premature Baby Foundation).
Silkstone Scar is based on a true story about the Yorkshire Village where premium coal was to be found in abundance.
Set in 1838, children in these villages were rarely educated and would work down in the coal mine from the age of 7.
Conditions were harsh and far removed from what we are accustomed to today.
Six days after the Queen’s coronation celebrations, nobody was prepared for what would happen in the mine…
This production, whilst tragic and heartbreaking, is also full of lighthearted moments as it brings relatable themes of bravery, love, small family communities and continuing to fight through adversity for what is right.
With a cast of over 30 children and 12 adults, a two tiered stage system with mechanically functioning mining scenery built by Nick Smith and his crew, sound effects by Peter Mitchell Sound Design, lighting and visual effects by Anthony Ford-Marsland, and costumes produced by Ellie Mitchell and Music Box, this is no
small scale production.
